Rant day

Gov class today as usual. ::sigh:: boorrriinnnggg. Ah well. So after summer school, we were going to drop off my carpool (Ernest) at his house, but turned out he forgot his house keys and his family was on vacation -_-;. Luckily, they were coming back today. Unluckily, he had promised to clean the house during the week they were gone and procrastinated and was planning to clean it all today in the 6 hours he had before they came home. So then we spent the next hour and a half trying to break into his house so his parents wouldn't kill him for not cleaning. We ended up finding a window where the lock was only half down and using two metal rings streached out, plus a LOT of pounding on the window at certain angles, we were able to get the lock about 93% up...there was just this tiny section still keeping the window locked that just wouldn't go up... We worked on that a bit longer, but eventually gave up. So Ernest decided to go to the pool to wait for his parents to let him in the house and then kill him for not doing the housework and I went home to take a nice, long nap.

When I got home, I had some lunch and then napped on the couch. I woke up around 4 to the sounds of my brother yelling "Arrgh! Power outage!" It seems that those rolling blackouts have finally gotten to us (this has been our first one). So we then dug up and used the one non-electric phone in my house that worked without power and called up my cousins. They still had power, so we went over to their house to spend the afternoon ^_^. I haven't seen them in awhile (dang school!) and so we (my brother and I) ended up staying there until about 10pm. We played Mission:Survival (board game) and my cousin showed me some drawings she made of people in her fanfic. She's getting good (better than me anyway :-P) and is teaching our other cousin how to draw better. Then we kinda looked through various animae related things she had and watched some Escaflowne. It was the first time I saw much of it dubbed and the English voices are sooooo weird. I'd much rather see the subbed, because the voices match much better and the English voices have weird intonations. Maybe that's just because I'm used to the Japanese, though. Afterward, we played hide and go seek a little with her little brother (i think about age 4ish) and then we had to go home. All in all, a fun, power-filled afternoon. Even though I missed most of it, I'm glad the outtage was during the daytime. I can't surive w/out lights! too much of a night owl...

Looking back, my title isn't really appropriate as I didn't rant too much in this log. For rants, go to today's entry (or actually, yesterday's since it's after 12) here.

Legally Blond

Like the title says, I went to see Legally Blond today. We were going to go in a nice sized group (Me, Jenny W, Sean, Ernest, and his gf) but right when we met in front of the theater, the last three decided that they would rather see Jurassic Park III instead. -_-; That was annoying because Jenny specifically said she didn't want to see Jurassic Park III and when we had suggested splitting before, the second to last person said he didn't want to split the group up. That's also rather annoying because said second to last person also got really upset and whiny when I had wanted to go see A.I. opening day with Sophia because he said we were all suppose to see it together. So fine, when I want to split up the group, it's totally unsensitive and mean and ditching, but when HE wants to split it up, it's totally okay. ::sigh:: But whatever. Long story.

So Legally Blond was funny--typical chick-flick plot, but a nice balancer after seeing A.I. Now I have a happy movie to counteract the sad one. And we got free snack packages before and after the movie ^_^. They probably just wanted to get rid of them, but they were good and hey! free food. After the movies were over, the group got back together and looked around at some stores. First we went to Bath, Body, and Beyond and just pretty much browsed through the whole store. Then we went to Barnes and Noble. Jenny, led Sean and I to the religion section and the other two people disappeared again. Anyway, the "Left Behind" serious is HUGE now. I had stopped reading about 2 books ago (I had gotten the first book for my b-day and had been following the series for awhile) because it had turned into more or less just an adventure story and school was cutting into my free reading time. Dunno, maybe it's gotten better though because it's still going...Then I saw this nonfiction book about a new way of looking at Paul or something like that. I skimmed the summary, comments, and the intro, and it looked kind of interesting. Maybe that's just me though because, out of all the followers in the New Testament, I've always been most interested in Paul because 1) he writes well and 2) seems most connecting to the people. That might just be because he wrote a lot so the stuff he did is remembered more, but you never know. Anyway, after that, the group split up and I went over to the bargain books section. They had this HUGE $100 dictionary there like the one on the information desk at the library. It was on sale for $24.90 and had hecka stuff in it, but was too big for really convienent use. They also had a nice, real leather-bound copy of "The Complete Works of the Brothers Grimm".

After awhile, we left (Jenny drove me home) and I went home and, surprise surprise, took a nap. ^_^. Sleep is good. I came to about three hours later, ate, got the mail, watched "Friends", and practiced piano. Finally, I came online and when I got an e-mail with a list of phone numbers of people who signed up to volunteer at the JL carwash, I realized i was suppose to call all of them and remind them to come and bring extra towels. dang...So, anyone who can, pleeeaasee help out and come to the high school junior lot sometime between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. And please bring extra towels if you can. Those who come get our undying gratitude and a free car wash when it's over! ^_^

Today and Yesterday

My mom left to go to Taipei for my grandfather's funeral yesterday. My brother, my dad, and I went with her to the airport to see her off. Good thing too because, when we got to the check in place, turned out her plane had mechanical problems and that the flight was cancelled. My dad went up to see what was going on and asked them what we could do since it's really important for my mom to get back to Taiwan. The people at China Airlines (my mom's orginal flight) were nice and let us transfer her to Eva Air. We got the last available seat on the plane, which was reeeeeaaaallly lucky. So we walked my mom down to the gate and said goodbye and left. The only downside was that the new flight was a bit later i think so she would've had to wait there longer.

Today, I went to government as usual and then went to a Jenny Lin rehersal. It was pretty cool because 1) florence was there and it's always more fun when there's ppl you know well, 2) we're actually beginning to sound sorta decent on some songs and 3) a newspaper person came and interviewed all the coordinators. The interview was cool because it was like a group interview and I found out a lot about the original case that I didn't know. I also found out a bit about the history of the Foundation and the first few Jenny Lin Concerts. Oh, speaking of singing, I gave Elly my RENT soundtrack yesterday and she was reeeallly happy with it ^_^. Today, after gov class she showed us all how she had those little head phones and was listening to RENT during all of class. So that's why she looked so awake... :-).

But she's really nice about it. some people are just good to talk to. absorbers. absorb the pain, absorb the guilt, squeezes back comfort. very nice

eh...

Went to summer school. Should've gotten more sleep because I kept nodding off in class... We got our project grades back too! My group got an A, which is good considering how much we procrastinated on it =P. After class, we all talked and Elly and I talked about RENT. She had seen it on Saturday and apparently they didn't have the sound problems they did on Sunday. She really loved it and asked me to bring my Original Broadway Cast soundtrack to Jenny Lin Rehersal that night so she could listen to it. She also asked Ernest to bring a copy of her quartet's performance at the last choir concert for an audition.

I went home, had a nice nap as usual :-) and then was off to Jenny Lin choir. Ernest called and said he couldn't make it. When I got there, I saw Elly and suddenly realized that I totally forgot about the RENT soundtrack. whoops.... Also, since Ernest wasn't there, she didn't have her recording of her group's performance either -_-;. poor elly. But now I have it in my backpack so I won't forget the CD's tomorrow. ^_^. RENT is really good, and I really liked the Maureen, Angel, and Collins in the performance I saw. The other cast members were good too. Just wish the sound system was better. eh. Somewhere in the afternoon I also called up some people to remind them about their JLConcert permission slips. It was a pretty good rehersal and we finally finished "Somewhere". The second sopranos still need work though...I'm kind of making up half my part because I don't really know it -_-; Ah well. After the rehersals, I got back the spinning lamp I gave Jelli for her b-day to adjust the balance better (those things aren't packaged too well and you have to use pliers to adjust the balance so they spin right) and gave Wendy the pictures my dad took of rehersals. They wanted to put some pictures in the program this time :-). Ooh...note to self: must write bio by wednesday. We're having a car wash this Saturday too. Last time the carwash was...fun-ish. I could only go there in the morning so I got there and waited awhile before Wendy showed up...then we had a fun little adventure getting over the fence and then trying to figure out how to get the hose to connect and work. The people had given us a key to unlock the hose thing, but it didn't fit. Later, we found out that that thing had been broken for a loonnnnggg time and that you needed pliers to open them. Actually, I'm not sure if that was during last year's JL Car wash or the JSA carwash. They all blend together after awhile. Ah well, I know that sometime during the JL carwash last year that I had "attracting people" duty so we made some posters and tried to tape them up even though it was really windy. Then Jelli and I took a long poster and stood next to the entrance to the parking lot. It was cold, so we tried moving the poster around like those people with arrows, but it was too hard with two people and with one really big, blowing around poster. We jumped up and down with it for awhile, but then got tired and eventually left it on a bush :-). Heh...so, interesting car wash. This time I can only come in the afternoon, so I'll probably be washing cars the whole time as, from what I've heard, business picked up a lot about an hour after I left and they didn't have to do any more advertising.

Anyway, I got home, ate dinner and watched the second half of The Mists of Avalon on TNT. It was pretty good. I read the book before, and movies are always kind of disappointing after the books, but they did a pretty good job of it. They cut a LOT out, but that was necessary unless they made it into a miniseries. That book was lllllloooooonnnnnngggg. So, hopefully I'll get offline at a decent time today and get more than four hours of sleep.

Hmm...figured I ought to write just a bit more. Piano is a weird thing for me. I mean, I like playing. At least, I think I like playing...but time always seems to get away from me. I always promise myself that I will practice more, but I never do. Plus, my practices get more and more inefficient as I spend more time on a song, so it's frustrating. I've been playing piano a long, long time, but have never gotten anywhere. But I always really enjoy playing piano when I'm actually playing it. I also don't know if I even have the ability...I don't think I've ever been able to play a really hard song well...I practice, and after a certain point, the song just goes downhill...and the highest point it reaches is never really that good. It's really annoying. I don't like being bad at things, despite being bad at just about anything physical or requiring strength, dexterity, or coordination. I mean, I'm not totally that bad at everything...but, after a certain point, my ability just plateaus. Like, I can't grow anymore...or like, I can, but need just a bit more than I can force myself into giving to get farther... I dunno...just a very tiring feeling. Makes you just want to drift, but then it's hard because everyone else is still swimming along and you don't want to be left behind.

On another note, I've had the song "Imagine" by John Lennon stuck in my head all day. Another drifter, dreamer song. But Lennon went out and did things. Even though the song was drifty, he didn't drift. Strange sort of. All those people out there crusading for peace, for a world where everyone seems to drift along. Straining and pushing for a world where no one has to strain or push. Sort of like all that Fighting for a world where no one would have to fight business. Don't think I really believe in that, though. There'll always be fighting. I can't imagine a world full of peace. Maybe a world of nothing, a world of nothing and no people, but not one of peace. At least not true peace. Maybe my problem is that I equate peace with calm good feeling. The easiest way for calm is for there to be nothing to stir up the waters. But where there is nothing, there is emptiness inside the human soul, and thus there cannot be happiness. Well, that also depends on what you mean by happiness. They say Nirvana is ultimate happiness because of it's ultimate emptiness. However, ancient Sumerians felt that death would be a boring, dreary, monotonous existence where one would forever travel down a tunnel of dust. So is "nothing" happy or sad. Or is it just oblivion?

sucky day

well, not really about my day, but I decided i'm going to keep both my blogs working for awhile and see after maybe a week which one is easier to keep/be better to drop. Anyway, here's my pre-typed rant from my other blog:

Actually the day started out okay. I went and saw RENT again! That was really cool, but I thought the last performance was better. Maybe just because I already knew most of this cast's little fun additions and they just aren't as much fun the second time around. But it was still pretty fun. I came home on BART and then tutored, which was...interesting. We got some work done and we saw a video about the human genome project. yeah. So nice and happy and fun day until about 45 minutes ago.... ::sigh::

Actually...i'm feeling better now. Am talking to someone about it, and they're being really nice and sympathetic. sheesh...i think I cry too easily...but once i start it's too hard to stop it. sheesh...still crying now....and i was suppose to be asleep half an hour ago. ah well. talking helps i guess. gonna try to get some good feeling back
